Preparing for Thai Bodywork

What to wear and how movement, compression, and communication work in a clothed Thai bodywork session.

Fresh linens and appointment preparation items.

Thai bodywork is fully clothed and movement-led. A little preparation helps the mat-based session feel natural from the beginning.

Wear clothing that moves with you

Choose clean athletic wear, yoga clothing, or flexible lounge clothing. The useful test is whether you can comfortably bend a knee, rotate a shoulder, and change positions without fabric pulling or hardware pressing into you.

Avoid restrictive denim, belts, large zippers, and hard accessories. You do not need to buy anything special or dress as if you are attending a yoga class.

The surface

The session takes place on a comfortable mat rather than a massage table.

The movement

Danielle may use rhythmic compression and guide supported, yoga-influenced positions.

Your role

You do not need to perform a stretch. Give feedback and let the range stay within your comfort.

Flexibility is not a requirement

Thai bodywork meets the range you have that day. A supported position can become smaller, change shape, or be skipped. There is no achievement level and no reason to push through sharp or unwanted discomfort.

Use ordinary language

“Less range,” “more support,” “slower,” or “let’s skip this” are complete instructions. You can also ask what a position is intended to do before it begins.

Before your appointment

Arrive in the clothing you plan to wear or bring a comfortable change. Think about whether you want broad movement or attention around a particular area, while leaving room for the plan to change after conversation.
